Body found in search for man who fell into Brisbane River

PJ Meafua, 23, had been at the Jindalee Boat Ramp in Brisbane's west on Sunday morning when he accidentally slipped.

A body has been recovered in the search for a man who fell into the Brisbane River from a pontoon on Sunday.

Police were told 23-year-old PJ Meafua had been at the Jindalee Boat Ramp with family and friends just before 5.40am when he fell into the river.

Meafua could not swim, so others jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue him, but he did not resurface.

"It's just an unfortunate accident that he slipped, there is no indication that they were mucking around," Acting Inspecter Shane Thow said on Sunday.

A search involving Water Police, foot patrols, Polair, and the SES began soon after and continued throughout yesterday

His body was found this morning.
