"We are seeing a burst of autumn heat across southeast Australia, this is being driven by very hot winds coming down from the centre of the country," BoM Meteorologist Jonathan How said.
Hot conditions have been building all week, and are mostly expected to peak today, except for Sydney which will likely be hottest tomorrow.

Temperatures are expected to be 6-15 degrees above their March average.
That means lots of the country will be in the mid-high 30s, temperatures but could reach the low 40s for inland parts of NSW and South Australia.
Adelaide has a top of 39 on the way, Melbourne could hit 34, Canberra 35 degrees, and Hobart a warm 26 degrees.

Sydney is expected to hit 37 degrees when the heat peaks tomorrow, with an uncomfortable night on the way tonight for many.
Record-breaking March minimum temperatures are predicted for Victoria and NSW.
There is also elevated fire risk due to the dry, windy conditions.
The Bureau of Meteorology said it expected to issue an extreme fire danger warnings for NSW tomorrow.
A cool change is predicted to sweep across the country tomorrow evening.
