DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn recently shared that the Peacemaker villain, Kite Man, did not die in Season 1. Season 2 of the much-awaited show premieres on Thursday, August 21. After receiving good reviews for the show’s debut season, fans are excited for the sophomore installment. John Cena’s Peacemaker was last seen on screen in Superman in a small cameo appearance.
James Gunn says Kite Man is still alive in Peacemaker and DC Universe
In the recent episode of Peacemaker: The Official Podcast, a fan asked the Creature Commandos creator about Kite Man and whether he is canon to the rebooted DCU.
James Gunn then addressed a scene in Peacemaker Season 1, which showed a newspaper clipping with the headline stating that Peacemaker has taken down Kite Man. He said, “It may say Peacemaker’s taken down Kite Man, I don’t think that means permanently. I don’t think it means he killed him, took him down. I think he just got him, and he’s in prison now. So, he’s still fine. We could see Kite Man, sure.”
This implies that Kite Man could be canon to Gunn’s rebooted DCU. However, he is yet to make his live-action debut. Kite Man is a supervillain appearing in the DC comics and was first introduced in 1960 in Batman #133. He makes use of kite-based weapons to commit crimes.
The DCU is moving forward after the success of Superman, and fans will get to see the return of Peacemaker in a few days.
While speaking about John Cena’s character Peacemaker, AKA Christopher Smith, at the SDCC this year, Gunn conveyed, “I really like TV shows where the characters don’t just return every season and they’re the same exact characters. I want to see growth. I want to see change and sometimes regression. And Peacemaker is a different guy this year. He’s dealing with the demons he uncovered from the first season, and trying to deal with them, and the world is not accepting him the way he is. They aren’t accepting him as a hero.” (via Deadline)
