Rumors may spread like wildfire online, but DC Studios head James Gunn is just as quick at throwing cold water on any nonsense that might emerge relating to the DC Universe.
Notable insider Jeff Sneider recently reported that Robin, the Boy Wonder, was part of Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin’s finished The Batman Part II script. The insider also stated that his sources have told him that the sequel was “worth the wait” and that it was a “big swing” for the pair. However, after a fan asked Gunn if any of what Sneider was reporting was true, the DC head quickly shot it all down.
What did James Gunn say about the new The Batman Part II rumor?
“Guys please stop believing this nonsense. I think six of us have read the script. No one knows anything about the Batman 2,” responded Gunn to the fan on Threads. While not an outright denial of what Sneider reported, it’s clear Gunn is growing tired of having to address any little detail that comes out about the long-awaited sequel to Reeves’ The Batman.
A sequel to The Batman was first announced in April 2022, shortly after the DC reboot became a critical and commercial success for Warner Bros. Pictures. Robert Pattinson is slated to return as Bruce Wayne/Batman, with Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell also set to reprise their respective roles as James Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth, and Oz Cobb/Penguin in the sequel.
The Batman Part II will be the third installment in Reeves’ The Batman Epic Crime Saga, picking up after the events of both The Batman and The Penguin, the latter of which was set just one week after the 2022 movie. In the limited series, Farrell’s Oz Cobb attempts to take control of Gotham’s criminal underworld, putting him at odds with Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone. The Penguin was a major critical hit for DC Studios, earning several accolades, as well as 24 nominations at the upcoming 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.
Production on The Batman Part II is scheduled to begin in early 2026 in England, ahead of its October 1, 2027, theatrical release date.
