While much about the upcoming Toy Story 5 remains unknown, an actor recently confirmed that his fan-favorite character from a past entry will be appearing in the new movie.
What character is returning for Toy Story 5?
Speaking during a recent appearance on The Discourse Podcast, Tony Hale — who played the character Forky in Toy Story 4 — confirmed that the makeshift toy will be returning again for the fifth movie, which he says is going to be a fun one.
“I recorded it a month ago,” Hale said of his role in the movie. “It’s going to be really special.”
Forky was originally introduced in Toy Story 4, and is more arts and craft than toy. The character is a handcrafted toy made out of a plastic spork, pipe cleaner, googly eyes, popsticle sticks, and wax. In Toy Story 4, Forky is largely insecure of his existence, and considers himself “trash,” something he constantly brings up throughout the movie. By the end of the movie, though, Forky becomes more confident, and accepts his status as a toy.
Toy Story 5 will once again star the main cast of the Pixar franchise, including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Ernie Hudson, and more. Alongside the main cast, the film will also star Hale, Conan O’Brien, and Anna Faris, among other likely yet-to-be revealed cast members.

Jessica Choi is producing the new Pixar sequel movie, while Pete Docter serves as an executive producer. Stanton previously co-directed 1998’s A Bug’s Life before he then went on to helm 2003’s Finding Nemo, 2008’s WALL-E, 2012’s John Carter, and 2016’s Finding Dory, while he’s also served various roles on a number of other Pixar titles.
Toy Story 5 will be released in United States theaters on June 19, 2026.
